Hi all, first time posting here. I picked myself up a nice Sheffield made bowie knife and as I'd been quite chatty with the store owner he threw in this bayonet for next to nothing.

It has no scabbard and I asked if he knew anything about it. Anyway I took pictures as best I could to see what you guys think and to see if you could shed any light on what I've got here. I'm not too bothered if it's real or not, I got it for cheap and I just thought it looked nice in it's own gnarly way. Given the height of a muzzle ring - I suspect it is a Mauser bayonet, and with the pattern on the grip perhaps a Spanish Mauser bayonet.

At first sight without supping my moring cuppa yet! I thought Mauser also but Turkish '' with those numbers.

Then I saw the grip screws I'll see if a cup of Yorkshire tea refreshes the brain possibly not as it's the last [informal] day of teaching today. From what I've seen the length seems to be about right and it has screws instead of rivets in the grip which matches the images I've found of the M If anyone else is more versed on this particular type can confirm this I'd be grateful.

Don't think it is Brazil or Spain - those washers around the grip screws I know I have seen them somewhere Shipping Steel down in Australia usually comes up fast on identifying ones like this so let's hear it from him or somebody else better-versed in the various varieties of Mauser-fitting bayonets. These were usually made in Toledo and the distinctive diamond pattern grips and screw bolts are characteristic give-aways. Also the fuller shape.

There you go Smonorkith! SS can never resist a challenge with these ones and I'd happily go along with him unless anyone knows any better! Wow, thanks for puzzling this out so quickly!

I knew from the minute I bought it that I'd simply have to find out otherwise it'd haunt me forever. Everybody's help has been greatly appreciated :D. SS, I forgot to wish you a happy gravy day! There have been a few cases where some MACs could not use the links in the CD and no one can seem to tell me why it works on some but not others. DGFM made with crest Intact. Blade remains unsharpened. SN E Crest ground. WKC manufacturer. The single screw type scabbard is associated with the early production runs of the M91 bayonet made with brass grips but the 2 rivet scabbard was standardized prior to the change to aluminum grips.

The most plausible explanation is that this bayonet was rehabbed and had the grips changed in the process. The blade has been re-buffed and is not as lustrous as the German factory polished finish so that fits. I have only observed one other such example in the D SN block but that one did not display any sign of blade buffing. Still, the blade remains unsharpened on this one and overall condition is good.

Crest intact. Scabbard is missing the right side throat rivet. Grips have gouges in the wood where they meet the pommel along the backstrap of the hilt. Overall crude finish and construction as compared to German made or Domingo Mathau made bayonets. Scabbard is a US M7 serial numbered to the bayonet on the top of the throatpiece.

Crossguard is loose but not coming off at all. Otherwise in good condition. Cut down M Rolling Block bayonet and scabbard. Scabbard is missing the throat screw. It differs from the Spanish version in that it is constructed conventionally as a useable bayonet as opposed the the Spanish cast hilt with a blade pinned in by a short tang under the grips.

It is unknown who manufactured these. This is only the 4th or 5th one I've found in the past 40 years and has had it's Argentine "RA" in an oval removed from the right ricasso.

The only mark remaining is a faint serial number on the left side of the crossguard which has also been defaced. The blade remains unsharpened. I've been told that of these were produced AFTER the first production run of which had the crest so that's why the serial number is above Shows honest wear but blade remains unsharpened.

RA marked ricasso. These were quickly replaced with the 2 side mounted rivet throat retainers. The cookie settings on this website are set to 'allow all cookies' to give you the very best experience.
